Funding has included support from the American Center in Dhaka, the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, and Facebook as part of its third-party fact-checking program. Analysis / Bias
FactWatch operates strictly as a fact-checking organization rather than a news or opinion outlet. Its content focuses on verifying claims using primary sources, reverse-image searches, archived media, official records, and contemporaneous reporting. Recent examples include its investigation into a misrepresented statement attributed to a BNP leader, concluding the viral clip was edited and labeling the claim false, as documented in BNP leader’s statement on ‘fasting, prayer, Hajj’ misrepresented.
Another example is its debunking of a viral video falsely claiming a recent meeting involving Sheikh Hasina, which FactWatch determined was from 2010 and rated false in Old video circulating claiming Sheikh Hasina’s recent meeting. FactWatch has also addressed satire misinterpreted as factual reporting, such as in Confusion from satire in the name of Jamaat Ameer. These examples demonstrate consistent methodology, neutral language, transparent sourcing, and clearly labeled verdicts, with no discernible political or ideological bias.
