Rating: BLATANT LIE

Explanation: No evidence supports this claim. A 2024 state law requires sheriffs to honor ICE detainers, and the sheriffs of Mecklenburg and Wake counties report full compliance. DHS provided no data backing McLaughlin’s assertion, and the NC Sheriffs’ Association says no jail is refusing transfers.
