Analysis / Bias

The Death Penalty Information Center provides data and insights on capital punishment to the media, public, and stakeholders. It also publishes news stories and creates reports, press releases, and briefings. For instance, an article titled “Trump Administration Presses Forward with Death Penalty Despite Election Defeat” frames the continuation of the death penalty under the Trump administration as a controversial action “despite” electoral defeat. They use terms such as “historically unprecedented” and “lame duck.” The article includes quotes from the incoming Biden administration.

Another article, “Democratic Legislators Introduce Death Penalty Repeal Bills, Urge President Biden to Commute Federal Death Sentences,” discusses Democrats’ efforts to abolish the federal death penalty, aligning with President Biden’s position and a progressive stance.

While DPIC maintains a stated position of neutrality on the death penalty, its focus on issues like racial and economic disparities, wrongful convictions, and ethical questions related to the application of the death penalty aligns closely with left-leaning viewpoints on criminal justice and social justice reform.
