Cancer.gov is operated by the National Cancer Institute, a federal agency funded by the U.S. government. Congress allocates the NCI’s budget, which supports research programs.

Analysis / Bias

Cancer.gov presents information that is evidence-based, peer-reviewed, and aligned with the consensus of the scientific and medical communities. Content is developed by subject matter experts and regularly reviewed to reflect updates in clinical guidelines and federally supported research. Cancer.gov does not include political commentary or advocacy language and maintains a neutral tone in its medical and research communications.

However, there is a noticeable contrast in visibility between administrations. A site search for “Biden” yields numerous articles highlighting his administration’s involvement in cancer policy, including the Cancer Moonshot and other named initiatives. In contrast, a search for “Trump”  returns no comparable coverage, despite the Trump administration’s own newsworthy actions—such as proposed NIH budget cuts reported by the House Appropriations Committee—which directly affect the National Cancer Institute.

While Cancer.gov is not a political news outlet and focuses on ongoing research and public education, its omission of significant past funding developments — including policies with potential impact on its operations — raises valid questions about editorial selectivity in framing federal leadership across administrations.
