History

The Cambridge Journal of Anthropology is an academic journal published by Berghahn Journals, covering anthropological research. Berghahn Journals is an independent academic publisher based in the United States and the United Kingdom. It publishes over 40 peer-reviewed journals in the humanities and social sciences. Berghahn titles are renowned for their rigorous editorial standards and are widely used by scholars worldwide.

Funded by / Ownership

Berghahn Journals is privately owned and sustains itself through a mix of subscription revenue and open-access publishing. Since 2019, it has supported a Subscribe-to-Open (S2O) model—most notably through the Berghahn Open Anthro initiative, which converted 13 anthropology journals to open access beginning in 2020. Berghahn also offers Gold Open Access options, allowing authors to pay Article Processing Charges (APCs) for open publication, often through institutional agreements like those with Cambridge University. The rest of its catalog follows traditional subscription access.
