The AV Club is owned by G/O Media Inc. which is a media company that runs Gizmodo, Kotaku, Jezebel, The Onion and other sister websites. G/O was formed in early 2019 when Great Hill Partners, a private equity firm, purchased the websites from Univision. Revenue is derived from advertising, sponsored content, and sales of merchandise.

In review, AV Club reports news on entertainment, conducts interviews and offers reviews. Entertainment news is published with minimal bias such as this: Mike Schur on making The Judge’s dreams come true with a surprise Good Place cameo. The AV Club infrequently reports on politics, but when they do it usually in the context of entertainment and frequently negative toward President Trump: Geopolitical checkmate: Iran might have a bloodthirsty communist dolphin squadron at their disposal.
