Notes: Americans United for Separation of Church and State or AU for short was founded on January 11, 1948, and is a nonpartisan nonprofit educational and advocacy organization that describes itself as dedicated to advancing the constitutional principle of church-state separation as the only way to ensure freedom of religion, including the right to believe or not believe, for all Americans.

The AU’s executive director is Barry W. Lynn and according to his bio in Huff Post “Reverend Barry W. Lynn has been the Executive Director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State since 1992. He is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, and a prominent leader of the American religious left. He is a strong advocate of separation of church and state.”

We examined AU’s blog “Wall of Separation” and overall they are well sourced to credible information. They do use strong loaded words in headlines/articles and most stories favor the left and are against the right. Overall, Americans United scores as left biased and factual according to MBFC’s methodology. (M. Huitsing 8/15/2017)
