The domain has a significant history. During 2016–2017, AlabamaObserver.com operated as an imposter local-news site that published fabricated stories. PolitiFact identified Alabama Observer as a fake-news/imposter site, while Lead Stories documented it as part of a network of fake local-news websites. The site later went offline for several years.
