Fact Check Search

Media Bias Fact Check selects and publishes fact checks from around the world. We only utilize fact-checkers that are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. Further, we review each fact check for accuracy before publishing. We fact-check the fact-checkers and let you know their bias. When appropriate, we explain the rating and/or offer our own rating if we disagree with the fact-checker. (D. Van Zandt)

MISLEADING

Claim by Donald Trump (R): Venezuela “stole” U.S. oil in the past.

PolitiFact rating: Misleading (Venezuela nationalized its oil industry in the 1970s after decades of foreign-company dominance, and U.S. firms were compensated; characterizing this as “stealing” strips the event of key legal and historical context.)

FALSE Claim by Marco Rubio (R): “It’s just not the kind of mission that you can pre-notify (Congress about) because it endangers the mission.”

PolitiFact rating: False (The administration’s decision not to notify Congress in advance runs against laws and precedents governing sensitive actions and war powers reporting; Congress is generally entitled to timely notification even when operations are sensitive.)

BLATANT
LIE
Claim by Donald Trump (R): California and Colorado are at the top of the list of states losing population as more people leave than move there.

Lead Stories rating: False (The latest statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau show that California lost population in 2020 and 2021, the first two years of the Covid pandemic. The negative trend reversed and the state gained residents in 2023 and 2024. Colorado’s population increased steadily from 2020 to 2024. President Trump’s claim that both states were big losers is based on an unscientific report from a moving company that is not confirmed by any other data.)

FALSE (International: India): An image shows a recent visual of a man sitting on a road in Bangladesh on which “India Out” could be seen written.
