Facebook Launches Free Verification Badge Using Facial Recognition

Meta is launching a free “Facebook Verified” badge designed to help users identify real people amid growing AI-generated profiles, content, and messages. Eligible users 18 and older in good standing with Facebook’s Community Standards can receive the badge after recording a short video selfie, which Meta will compare to existing profile photos using facial-recognition technology. Google Rivals Seek Damages After EU Fine

Google rivals are pursuing damages after the European Commission fined Google €890 million under the Digital Markets Act. The fine has given competitors new leverage in private lawsuits across Europe, with some smaller rivals seeking as much as $10 billion combined. Claimants are relying on the Commission’s earlier Google Shopping decision to argue that Google favored its own services and harmed competition. New Tool Identifies Sources of AI-Generated Videos

Researchers led by a UC Riverside computer science team have developed SAGA, a tool designed not only to detect AI-generated videos but also identify which AI system created them. The framework analyzes visual patterns and motion-based artifacts left behind by generative video models, using what researchers call Temporal Attention Signatures. The team tested SAGA on videos from 19 AI video generators and found it could distinguish real from synthetic videos, determine whether a video came from text-to-video or image-to-video systems, and identify differences among model versions and development teams.
