States Sue to Block Paramount-Warner Merger

12 states have sued to block Paramount’s $81 billion takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery, arguing the merger would “extinguish competition” in Hollywood. Led by California Attorney General Rob Bonta, the states say the deal could lead to higher prices, fewer choices for consumers, fewer movies and TV shows, and lower-quality content. Meta Expands Louisiana Data Center Plans

Meta is expanding its Hyperion data center in Richland Parish, Louisiana, to 5 gigawatts of compute capacity, with total investment in the project rising to more than $50 billion. The facility, originally announced as part of Meta’s joint venture with Blue Owl Capital, will support the company’s long-term artificial intelligence development by powering AI model training and maintenance. The expansion comes as data centers face growing scrutiny over utility costs, environmental impact, and local infrastructure demands. (Read More) (The Hill Rating)

He said this could commoditize general news and force publishers to focus more on original reporting, contextual analysis, community building, human connection, audio, video, and personality-led journalism. Newman also said publishers should use AI tools on their own platforms while strengthening distinctive journalism that AI cannot easily replicate. (Read More) (Press Gazette Rating)
