MBFC’s Daily Vetted Fact Checks for 05/10/2026 (Weekend Edition)

Media Bias Fact Check selects and publishes fact checks from around the world. We only utilize fact-checkers that are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. Further, we review each fact check for accuracy before publishing. We fact-check the fact-checkers and let you know their bias. When appropriate, we explain the rating and/or offer our own rating if we disagree with the fact-checker. (D. Van Zandt)

BLATANT
LIE
Claim via Social Media: Hantavirus is listed as a side effect of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine.

Full Fact rating: False (Hantavirus was cited in Pfizer documents as part of a list of adverse events of special interest. These are health conditions researchers monitor during vaccine trials, not side effects.)

MOSTLY
TRUE
Claim via Social Media: Reporting from May 2026 accurately claimed that Google Chrome silently installed a 4-gigabyte artificial intelligence model on users’ devices without consent, and that the model reinstalls itself if deleted.

Snopes rating: Mostly True (Google Chrome did install the Google Gemini Nano AI model, including a 4GB “weights.bin” file, on some desktop users’ devices, but not all computers or mobile devices. Snopes confirmed users could remove it through a Chrome opt-out setting, though it had not verified claims that the file reinstalls itself after manual deletion. )

FALSE Claim by Byron Donalds (R): Congress passed the 1965 Voting Rights Act because “the Democrat party at the time, especially in the South, were racially gerrymandering districts to disenfranchise Black voters.”

PolitiFact rating: False (The Voting Rights Act was created to enforce the 15th Amendment and combat barriers such as literacy tests, poll taxes, property tests, intimidation, and violence. Historians say racial gerrymandering existed but was not the primary reason for the law’s creation.)

Was the Voting Rights Act created because of Democrat gerrymandering? Fact-checking Byron Donalds

FALSE (International: Australia): Since 2023, more than 50,000 immigrants have accessed a government home loan scheme that Australian citizens are not entitled to.

AAP rating: False (The government home loan scheme is not exclusively available to immigrants.)
