Fact Check Search

Media Bias Fact Check selects and publishes fact checks from around the world. We only utilize fact-checkers that are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. Further, we review each fact check for accuracy before publishing. We fact-check the fact-checkers and let you know their bias. When appropriate, we explain the rating and/or offer our own rating if we disagree with the fact-checker. (D. Van Zandt)

LIE
Claim by Donald Trump (R): “My tariffs … are helping to slash the deficit this year by more than 25%.”

PolitiFact rating: False (President Donald Trump has not reduced the federal deficit by 25%. The deficit for fiscal year 2025, which ended Sept. 30, was 2.3% smaller than the fiscal year 2024 deficit. Considering only the portions of fiscal year 2025 when Trump was president, the deficit was higher on Trump’s watch than during the comparable months in 2024 under President Joe Biden.)

President Donald Trump is wrong that tariff revenues have slashed US deficit by 25%

TRUE Claim via Social Media: In November 2025, the U.S. Senate cut food safety regulations in a funding bill to reopen the government.

Snopes.com rating: True (Senate lawmakers did, in fact, pass provisions in the funding bill that made cuts to FDA rules aimed at preventing food contamination and foodborne illnesses,)

Government funding bill cuts food safety regulations. See the provisions for yourself

BLATANT
LIE
Claim via Social Media: Video tells a real story about a veteran who killed three robbers breaking into his home and is now being charged with murder

Lead Stories rating: False (The details of this story do not match a real case. The video uses clips from several unrelated news reports. In 2019, there was a Georgia homeowner who fatally shot three masked teens who had tried to rob him in his front yard, but this person was not charged with murder and was not identified as a veteran in news reports.)

Fact Check: A Veteran Was NOT Charged With Murder For Killing Three Kids Who Broke Into His House — Ragebait Fake Story

FALSE (International: Australia): 50 percent of Australia’s population is now on welfare.

AAP rating: False (Between 20-25 per cent of the population is on income support.)

Experts rubbish claim that half of Australia is on welfare
