Fact Check Search

Media Bias Fact Check selects and publishes fact checks from around the world. We only utilize fact-checkers that are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. Further, we review each fact check for accuracy before publishing. We fact-check the fact-checkers and let you know their bias. When appropriate, we explain the rating and/or offer our own rating if we disagree with the fact-checker. (D. Van Zandt)

TRUE
Claim by Robert Ortt (R): During Gov. Hochul’s tenure, there has been “more crime on our streets.”

Politifact rating: Mostly True (Gov. Hochul took office in August 2021, and statewide data show the number of crimes and the crime rate is up from 2021. If the measurement starts in 2022, the first full year Hochul held office, the count is higher, but the rate is not. The rate of certain crimes have decreased significantly, such as murder, which has fallen by 29%.)

FALSE Claim by Donald Trump (R): The Paris Agreement required the U.S. to pay about $1 trillion.

FactCheck.org rating: False (The agreement did not require a set U.S. payment; developed countries collectively pledged $100 billion annually. U.S. spending beyond that stems from domestic policy, not the Paris accord.)
