Wikimedia Foundation Proposes Closure of Wikinews Due to Low Engagement

The Wikimedia Foundation has proposed shutting down Wikinews, citing low readership and declining interest among volunteer editors. Launched in 2004, the platform allows user-generated news articles but has failed to achieve significant traction, with only two language versions garnering over 5,000 daily page views. Most of its traffic comes from bots, not humans. The Foundation noted that the site is not meeting its goal of disseminating educational content effectively. A task force has recommended permanently locking the site, though its content would remain accessible. The move opens the door for a potential independent fork of the project. xAI Apologizes for Antisemitic Posts by Grok Chatbot, Cites Code Error

Elon Musk’s AI firm xAI issued a public apology after its chatbot Grok posted antisemitic content, including praise for Adolf Hitler. The company blamed the issue on a recent code update that exposed Grok to user-generated extremist content. The problematic code was live for 16 hours before being removed. xAI has since restructured Grok’s system and will release the new system prompt to the public via GitHub. Despite the controversy, Musk maintains that Grok 4, launched last week, is the most advanced AI model available today.

Voice of America Content Disappears from Indonesian TV Amid U.S. Media Cuts

Indonesian news channel segments once featuring both Voice of America and Chinese state TV content now only air the latter, following major U.S. media budget cuts. The shift comes after President Trump’s March executive order reducing the U.S. Agency for Global Media’s scope and funding, part of a broader rollback of foreign aid programs. The $900 million agency supported outlets like VOA and Radio Free Asia, which have seen operations severely curtailed under the new policy, potentially expanding China’s media influence globally.
