MBFC’s Daily Vetted Fact Checks for 04/25/2025

Media Bias Fact Check selects and publishes fact checks from around the world. We only utilize fact-checkers that are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. Further, we review each fact check for accuracy before publishing. We fact-check the fact-checkers and let you know their bias. When appropriate, we explain the rating and/or offer our own rating if we disagree with the fact-checker. (D. Van Zandt)

BLATANT
LIE
Claim via Social Media: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved ivermectin as a treatment for COVID-19 in April 2025

Lead Stories rating: False (An FDA guide stipulating that the agency did not recommend ivermectin as a treatment for COVID-19 remained unedited for more than a year.)

Fact Check: NO EVIDENCE FDA Approved Ivermectin as COVID-19 Treatment in April 2025

MOSTLY
FALSE
Claim by Pam Bondi: “In 2019, two courts — an immigration court and an appellate immigration court — ruled that [Kilmar Abrego Garcia] was a member of MS-13.”

FactCheck.org rating: Mostly False (The court didn’t rule definitively on MS-13 membership but found the DHS report “appears to be trustworthy” enough to deny bond. A separate judge found Abrego Garcia’s testimony credible but denied asylum due to his application being filed seven years after entry, exceeding the one-year deadline.)

Due Process and the Abrego Garcia Case

MISLEADING Claim by Bjorn Lomborg: Solar and wind make electricity more expensive.

Science Feedback rating: Misleading (Electricity pricing varies widely by location, and simplifying the factors involved can be misleading. While integrating solar and wind can increase grid costs, many states with high renewable use still maintain low household electricity bills.)

If renewables are cheap, why is their electricity expensive?

FALSE (International: United Kingdom): Photo of Keir Starmer celebrating Jewish holidays.

Logically Facts rating: Fake
