DOJ Pushes for Google to Divest Chrome, Tightens Antitrust Measures

The U.S. Department of Justice is maintaining pressure on Google to divest its Chrome browser—and possibly Android—as part of an ongoing antitrust case. The DOJ argues that separating Google from Chrome would curb its dominance in search advertising and generative AI. The agency is also questioning Google’s $20 billion deal with Apple, which made Chrome the default browser on iPhones. Trump Frequently Cites Mainstream Media Despite Public Battles

An Axios analysis found that nearly half (49%) of the media companies cited by Donald Trump on Truth Social since his inauguration are owned by Rupert Murdoch, while only 17% are mainstream outlets—many of which he has sued or banned. The study also found that many AI search engines confidently present incorrect information, making it difficult for users to gauge reliability. Additionally, AI-generated referral traffic to news publishers remains dismal, with chatbots driving 96% less traffic than traditional Google search. (Read MoreNieman Lab Rating)
