History

Launched in January 2017, Crooked is a media company founded by three former top Barack Obama staffers Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor.

Crooked Media focuses on producing newscasts, podcasts and editorials. Crooked Media maintains several podcasts such as Pod Save America (focus on activism), Pod Save the People (culture, social justice, and politics by exploring history), Pod Save the World (focus on foreign policy and international relations) and more.

Crooked provides coverage that includes, in their own words: “to talk about politics in a way that doesn’t make you want to throw your phone out the window – with shows and analysis and other forms of sweet, sweet content that inform, entertain, and inspire action.”

Analysis / Bias

In review, under the “Reads” category, Crooked publishes articles that utilize strong loaded words such as: “DONALD TRUMP’S OBSTRUCTION DEFENSE IS COLLAPSING,” however they source to credible news media such as Washington Post, NY Times, Vox and the President’s tweets. Story selection always favors the left with stories such as this DEMOCRATS MUST KEEP FIGHTING TRUMP’S BAILOUTS and frequently denigrate President Trump: TRUMP RAMPS UP RACIST CORONAVIRUS SCAPEGOATING. Again, these articles are properly sourced.

Crooked also has a link to their other website Vote Save America, which encourages people to vote and provides information about the Presidential candidates. There is very strong left leaning editorial bias presented as they portray Trump negatively with statements such of his priorities “Increase health care costs and repeal the Affordable Care Act.” Further, when you hover the mouse over his picture a poop emoji appears. When you hover over Joe Biden it displays a smiley face emoji and lists his top priority as “Protect the ACA and offer a Medicare public option to diversify health care choices.” In general, Crooked reports news factually, however there is a very strong one sided left bias that can be misleading due to a lack of context.
