Formed in 1946, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the leading national public health institute of the United States. The CDC is a United States federal agency under the Department of Health and Human Services. Its main goal is to protect public health and safety through the control and prevention of disease, injury, and disability in the US and internationally. The CDC focuses national attention on developing and applying disease control and prevention.

The CDC is a part of the Federal Government and funded as part of the budget of the USA Government.

In review, the primary purpose of the CDC is to protect the USA and world from infectious disease and promote general well being in regards to health.
