The Dow Jones index fell more than 400 points Wednesday morning after bond markets flashed a troubling indicator of an impending recession. The phenomenon, known as an inverted yield curve, has predicted every recession since the 1960s. It happens when investors, concerned about a sluggish economy, start shifting their money to less risky assets.
