History

Founded in 1960, The United Federation of Teachers (UFT) is the labor union that represents most teachers in New York City public schools. As of 2005, there were about 118,000 in-service teachers and 17,000 paraprofessional educators in the union, as well as about 54,000 retired members. According to their about page, “The UFT, which represents nearly 200,000 members, is the sole bargaining agent for most of the non-supervisory educators who work in the New York City public schools.”

In review, the UFT advocates for equity for teachers and healthcare workers who are a part of the union. The website primarily publishes news related to union activities. However, they also publish news related to education and general union news, such as this Amazon workers hold first union vote.
