History
Family Policy Alliance (FPA) was launched in 2004 by Focus on the Family as its political lobbying arm (then known as Focus on the Family Action). In 2014, FPA established the Family Policy Alliance Foundation, a sister nonprofit organization that focuses on educational efforts, while the main FPA concentrates on lobbying and electoral activities. Both entities are overtly Christian and conservative, promoting public policies shaped by a Biblical worldview.
FPA coordinates a network of 40 state affiliates and trains Christian politicians through its Statesmen Academy, while hosting annual conferences on conservative policy. It has aligned itself with the Project 2025 coalition organized by the Heritage Foundation.

Funded by / Ownership
FPA and FPAF are funded through private donations. The 2023 Financial Statement shows they raised over $6.5 million in 2023, with $3.2 million allocated to education and grassroots mobilization. Their 501(c)(3) status (FPAF) allows for tax-deductible donations, while the 501(c)(4) branch is used for direct political advocacy. ProPublica records confirm this financial structure.
Analysis / Bias
Family Policy Alliance is overtly right-wing and evangelically Christian, promoting traditionalist and Biblical social views across several policy areas:
- Abortion: The group supports banning abortion from fertilization onward and seeks to overturn protections for abortion access nationwide. It calls Roe v. Wade “infamous” and claims science proves fetal personhood.
- Transgender Rights: FPA rejects the legitimacy of transgender identity, asserting “God created mankind male and female” and opposes all gender-affirming care and societal recognition.
- LGBTQ+ Rights: The group calls homosexuality a “false form of sexuality” and opposes civil rights protections for LGBTQ+ individuals, claiming such protections violate religious liberty.
- Political Campaigning: The group explicitly supports Christian conservative candidates, praises Donald Trump, and aligns its policies with religious nationalism
FPA also partnered with groups such as the Women’s Liberation Front (WoLF) to oppose trans rights and celebrated state laws banning transgender athletes from sports. It misgenders transgender individuals and promotes conspiratorial claims that LGBTQ+ advocacy aims to “sexualize” children.
In general, Family Policy Alliance is a Christian nationalist advocacy organization that promotes far-right views on gender, sexuality, abortion, and education. It exhibits strong anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment, seeks to enshrine Biblical interpretations in law, and trains politicians to legislate accordingly. Its policy positions are ideologically driven, with little regard for empirical sourcing, and its rhetoric often stigmatizes marginalized groups. The parent organization, Focus on the Family, is labeled a hate group by the SPLC.
Failed Fact Checks
- FPA itself has not been directly fact-checked, but its parent organization, Focus on the Family, has a poor fact-checking record and scores “Low” for factual reporting according to Media Bias/Fact Check. Claims promoted by FPA—such as those on transgender healthcare or abortion risks—have frequently contradicted mainstream medical consensus.
Overall, we rate the Family Policy Alliance as Far-right biased and questionable based on the promotion of dogmatic propaganda, conspiracy, poor sourcing, misinformation, pseudoscience, and third-party designation as an anti-LGBTQ+ hate group. (D. Van Zandt 07/07/2025)
