Funded by / Ownership

FakeNews Tragač is operated by the Novi Sad School of Journalism, headquartered in Novi Sad, Serbia. Funding has come through project-based support from international democratic development organizations and EU-backed programs, including the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), European Endowment for Democracy (EED), IFCN Global Fact Check Fund, and European Union-supported initiatives.

The outlet explicitly states that donors do not influence editorial content and that it does not publish sponsored content.

Analysis / Bias

FakeNews Tragač functions as a media watchdog and fact-checking portal. Its content typically evaluates specific misinformation claims and documents evidence supporting its conclusions.

For example, in No, the meeting between Vučić and Erdogan is not on all the front pages of Turkish media, the outlet reviewed Serbian media claims and provided counterexamples from Turkish newspapers to demonstrate the inaccuracy of the “all front pages” assertion.

In RTS repeatedly misled viewers with a report about the Faculty of Philosophy, the outlet analyzed a Serbian public broadcaster’s coverage, identifying misrepresentation of statements and selective framing. While the tone is critical, it remains evidence-based and focuses on documented inconsistencies rather than ideological rhetoric.

Story selection centers on media accountability, political claims, and misinformation within Serbia. Language is generally analytical and corrective rather than emotionally charged. There is no consistent pattern of partisan advocacy; instead, the focus is on factual accuracy and media standards.

Failed Fact Checks

  • None in the Last 5 years. They are an IFCN Fact Checker.
