History
Factcheck.bg is a Bulgarian fact-checking platform launched in May 2021 by professional journalists as an initiative of the Association of European Journalists – Bulgaria. The project was created to counter disinformation in the Bulgarian media environment and to verify claims of public importance with potential social impact. According to its mission statement, the outlet adheres to established journalistic standards and focuses on fact-checking claims circulating on social media, in traditional media, and in public statements by politicians and public figures.

Factcheck.bg is operated by the Association of European Journalists – Bulgaria (AEJ-Bulgaria), a non-profit organization registered for public benefit. AEJ-Bulgaria, founded in 2010, is a member of the International Association of European Journalists and works to protect freedom of speech, access to information, and journalistic integrity. The project is supported through partnerships and cooperation with civil society organizations, international institutions, academic centers, and media-related initiatives, as outlined on its partners page. Factcheck.bg does not engage in advertising-driven or affiliate-based monetization.
