Fact Check: Do Brazil’s fast election results prove U.S. elections are being rigged?

Media Bias Fact Check (MBFC) publishes daily vetted fact checks from verified IFCN-approved sources. Each claim is independently reviewed for accuracy and context.

Claimant: Donald Trump (R)

Claim: Brazil’s quick election results prove that places such as Detroit, Philadelphia and California “take weeks to rig” their elections.

Rating: BLATANT LIE

Explanation: Brazil and the United States use fundamentally different election systems. Brazil uses nationally standardized electronic voting and does not offer mail-in voting, while U.S. states have differing rules for mail ballots, processing and certification. There is no evidence that slower counting in U.S. jurisdictions indicates election rigging.
