The organization publishes annual IRS Form 990 filings and identifies its leadership, board, staff, contact information, and physical address.

Analysis / Bias

Center for Food Safety generally holds a left-of-center perspective on environmental and regulatory issues. The organization supports increased government oversight of pesticides and biotechnology, organic and sustainable agriculture, environmental justice, corporate accountability, food-labeling requirements, and protections for farmworkers and endangered species. Its economic approach tends to be skeptical of large agricultural corporations and prefers regulation rather than market-led solutions.

For example, in its statement on former President Trump’s election victory, Center for Food Safety characterizes the Trump administration as reducing environmental protections and favoring corporate interests over public health. Similarly, in coverage of EPA pesticide approvals under Trump, the organization criticizes regulatory decisions and argues that these actions do not sufficiently protect human health and the environment.

CFS has a long-standing opposition to genetically engineered agriculture. Its current campaigns, such as Food Integrity, focus on GMO labeling, environmental impacts, pesticide use, and regulatory oversight. While these are ongoing policy debates, the organization also continues to host older material, including content suggesting there is no scientific consensus on GMO safety and guides advising consumers to avoid GMO foods. This presentation does not align with the broader scientific consensus, which finds that approved genetically engineered foods currently available do not pose greater health risks than conventional foods.

There is not enough evidence to classify Center for Food Safety as a pseudoscience organization. Most of its current biotechnology advocacy addresses environmental impacts, pesticide-resistant crops, labeling, and regulatory policy, rather than making unsupported claims that GMO consumption directly causes disease. However, the organization’s one-sided presentation of genetic engineering and continued publication of material that disputes the scientific consensus on GMO food safety lowers its factual rating.
