History

Founded by Sky Palma in 2012, DeadState was a left-leaning online news and opinion website. According to their previous about page, “Without resorting to clickbait and misinformation, DeadState highlights both the absurdity and triumphs of people, politics, current events, religion, and the overall human condition from an unapologetically secular progressive perspective.”

In November of 2024, the website is no longer online. However, the Facebook page continues to publish content. Further, the content on Facebook now strongly favors a right-leaning perspective indicating a radical departure from previous content.

Analysis / Bias

Historically, DeadState demonstrated a progressive liberal bias in its coverage, with stories favoring the left, sometimes utilizing moderately loaded language, and often presenting content from a secular viewpoint. This perspective led to a generally negative portrayal of conservative and religious political figures, particularly former President Donald Trump.

However, with its recent shift to Facebook, there appears to be a dramatic change in editorial direction. Nearly every post either denigrates the left or supports Donald Trump and the MAGA movement. An example Meme is as follows:

Another post on a red background reads: “Remember — lib tears are the only thing that matters.” While they sometimes rely on news stories from sources like the New York Post, most posts are memes or other posts from right-leaning social media personalities. In general, the FB page holds far-right biases and lacks credibility.
