MBFC’s Daily Vetted Fact Checks for 09/08/2026

Media Bias Fact Check selects and publishes fact checks from around the world. We only utilize fact-checkers that are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. Further, we review each fact check for accuracy before publishing. We fact-check the fact-checkers and let you know their bias. When appropriate, we explain the rating and/or offer our own rating if we disagree with the fact-checker. (D. Van Zandt)

MOSTLY
TRUE
Claim by David Jolly (D): “70, 80% of people across Florida are saying, ‘Don’t build data centers.’”

PolitiFact rating: Mostly True (Recent Florida polls generally show more opposition than support for new data centers, with one University of North Florida poll finding 68% opposed and another poll showing 79% opposed, though results vary depending on wording.)

David Jolly said the vast majority of Floridians oppose new data centers. Polls back that up.

MISLEADING Claim by Roy Cooper’s campaign: Michael Whatley said “grocery prices are down, gasoline prices are down, housing prices are down, inflation is down.”

FactCheck.org rating: Misleading (The quotes are real, but some were dated and more defensible when Whatley made them; by current metrics, grocery, gas, housing prices and inflation were all higher.)

BLATANT
LIE
Claim via Social Media: The suspect in the Minneapolis mass shooting was trans shooter Samantha Hyde.

Lead Stories rating: False (The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension identified the suspect as 35-year-old Carlton Neal Johnson II.)

Fact Check: Suspect In Minneapolis Mass Shooting Was NOT Trans Shooter Samantha Hyde — Edited Image

FALSE (International: Iran): Trump posted a screenshot of an X post to Truth Social with eight AI generated women that Iran is preparing to hang

Lead Stories rating: False (They were real women)
