Study Finds LLMs Struggle to Give Safe Medical Advice in Real-World Interactions

A comprehensive Oxford University study published in Nature reveals that large language models (LLMs) like GPT-4o, LLaMA 3, and Cohere’s Command R+ are not yet ready to act as reliable medical advisors. Although the LLMs demonstrated high accuracy (94.9%) when analyzing full clinical scenarios independently, their effectiveness dropped dramatically (below 34.5%) when advising real users in simulated situations. The models often missed critical symptoms, provided inconsistent or incorrect recommendations, and in some cases, gave dangerously conflicting advice to users with similar inputs. Substack Profiting from Nazi and White Supremacist Newsletters, Investigation Finds

An investigation by The Guardian has uncovered that Substack is hosting and profiting from newsletters that promote Nazi ideology, Holocaust denial, and white supremacist content. The newsletters, such as NatSocToday and Third Reich Literature Archive, collectively have thousands of subscribers and use hate symbols like swastikas while pushing antisemitic conspiracies. California Sues Websites Distributing Ghost Gun 3D Printing Blueprints

California Attorney General Rob Bonta and San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu have filed a lawsuit against two websites, the Gatalog Foundation Inc. and CTRLPEW LLC, for enabling users to manufacture untraceable “ghost guns” through 3D printing. The lawsuit accuses the platforms of violating state laws by distributing code for more than 150 firearm designs, including illegal accessories. Officials say the rise in ghost guns poses a major public safety crisis, with over 11,000 such weapons recovered annually in California since 2021.
