Media Bias Fact Check selects and publishes fact checks from around the world. We only utilize fact-checkers that are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. Further, we review each fact check for accuracy before publishing. We fact-check the fact-checkers and let you know their bias. When appropriate, we explain the rating and/or offer our own rating if we disagree with the fact-checker. (D. Van Zandt)

TRUE Claim via Social Media: The U.S. Department of Agriculture told grocery stores they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program funding lapse during the government shutdown that began in October 2025.

Snopes.com rating: True (But, grocery stores can apply for a waiver to provide special discounts to SNAP customers.)

USDA prohibits SNAP discounts during shutdown unless retailers have waivers

BLATANT
LIE
Claim via Social Media: Vail school district teachers only dressed in seemingly blood-soaked “Problem Solved” t-shirts after Charlie Kirk was shot

Lead Stories rating: False (According to the school district’s superintendent, in a since-deleted Facebook post reported on by local media outlets, the T-shirts predated the assassination of Turning Point USA Co-Founder Kirk by more than a year and had nothing to do with him. The items were purchased in 2024 and worn by the teachers for two Halloweens in a row.)

Fact Check: Photo Of Vail School District Teachers Wearing ‘Problem Solved’ Halloween T-Shirts Is NOT Related To Assassination Of Charlie Kirk

TRUE Claim via Social Media: Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., said, referring to U.S. President Donald Trump’s border policies, “Trump did a better job. I don’t like Trump, you know, but we should have a secure border and it ain’t that hard to do.”

Snopes rating: True (Sanders made the remark while discussing Democratic and Republican border and immigration policies during a podcast with the comedian Tim Dillon.)

Did Bernie Sanders praise Trump’s border policies?

FALSE Claim by JB Pritzker (D): The federal government “decided to shut down the SNAP machines, so that they can’t be used.”

PolitiFact rating: False (There are no separate “SNAP machines.” SNAP recipients use the same card readers as everyone else, and they were never shut down. The Trump administration initially said it would halt new benefits during the shutdown but later used contingency funds to partially continue payments after a court order.)

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said Trump ‘shut down the SNAP machines.’ There are no SNAP machines

JB Pritzker Rating

FALSE (International: Germany): A video shows thousands of Kenyan migrants entering Germany.

AAP rating: False (The video shows a passenger ferry in Kenya.)
