MBFC’s Daily Vetted Fact Checks for 04/12/2025 (Weekend Edition)

Media Bias Fact Check selects and publishes fact checks from around the world. We only utilize fact-checkers that are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. Further, we review each fact check for accuracy before publishing. We fact-check the fact-checkers and let you know their bias. When appropriate, we explain the rating and/or offer our own rating if we disagree with the fact-checker. (D. Van Zandt)

BLATANT
LIE
Claim by Donald Trump (R): The 2020 election was “rigged” and Chris Krebs, former Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency director, “baselessly” dismissed “election malfeasance.”

Politifact rating: Pants on Fire (Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election. States certified the results and Congress accepted the results. Election security officials — including Republicans and people in President Donald Trump’s first administration — determined that the 2020 election, one of the most scrutinized and litigated in history, was fair and secure.)

Donald Trump falsely calls 2020 election ‘rigged’ in memo targeting former cybersecurity leader

TRUE Claim via Social Media: A pair of authentic news headlines accurately stated that the U.S. Department of Justice directed prosecutors to seek the death penalty for UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting suspect Luigi Mangione, whereas prosecutors offered a gunman who killed 23 in a racist attack at a Texas Walmart a plea deal to avoid the same sentence.

Snopes rating: True (Federal prosecutors were, at the time of this writing, seeking the death penalty for 26-year-old Mangione, whereas prosecutors did not and will not seek the death penalty for Crusius, also 26.)

Luigi Mangione may receive death penalty, while white supremacist who killed 23 at Texas Walmart won’t

BLATANT
LIE
Claim by Steve Milloy: Vehicle emissions don’t impact human health or the environment.

Science Feedback rating: Incorrect (Vehicle pollution harms health, especially respiratory.)

Is vehicle pollution still a problem? Yes, here’s why it still harms health and climate

FALSE (International: Australia): The WHO has admitted monkeypox is a side effect of the COVID mRNA vaccine.

AAP rating: False (Mpox is listed in a database of unverified possible vaccine side effects but no causal link has been found.)

WHO has not ‘admitted’ mpox is COVID vaccine side effect
