Source of the Day: Protect Democracy

ProtectDemocracy.org, founded in 2017, is a non-profit dedicated to preventing the erosion of democratic norms in the United States. Based in Washington, D.C., the organization employs legal advocacy, public education, and policy reform to promote accountability and transparency in government.

According to its mission, Protect Democracy is a “cross-ideological nonprofit group dedicated to defeating the authoritarian threat, building more resilient democratic institutions, and protecting our freedom and liberal democracy.”

Funded primarily through donations and grants, Protect Democracy operates under a board of directors and includes legal, policy, and communications professionals.

The organization has been involved in high-profile litigation, including representing Capitol Police officers against former President Trump and challenging actions of the Trump administration. While its focus on countering authoritarianism and disinformation aligns with liberal perspectives, Protect Democracy has also targeted officials from both the Democratic and Republican parties, showcasing a commitment to bipartisan advocacy. This balanced approach and reliance on documented evidence earn Protect Democracy a Left-Center bias and a high credibility rating from Media Bias/Fact Check.
