FreedomWorks Dissolves Amid Trump-Induced Ideological Shift

Conservative organization FreedomWorks is dissolving due to the divisive impact of former President Trump on the Republican Party. “We’re dissolved,” declared Adam Brandon, the group’s president, “It’s effective immediately.”

The board of directors unanimously voted to cease operations, with Politico reporting the imminent shutdown. The organization’s approximately 25 employees will receive pay and benefits for a few months following their last day.

FreedomWorks, which laid off 40% of its staff in March 2023, saw its total revenue halve since 2022. Brandon attributed the dissolution to ideological shifts within the group following Trump’s presidency. He noted a “huge gap” between the group’s libertarian principles and the MAGA ideologies of its members.

“Our base aged, and the new activists that came in with Trump tend to be much more populist,” Brandon explained, highlighting the shift in the group’s demographic. The staff became divided between MAGA Trump supporters and “Never Trump” Republicans, leading to an “erosion of conservative donors.”

Brandon described an “impossible situation” where some donors demanded more support for Trump, while others thought he was doing too much. Brandon, who has been with FreedomWorks since 2005 and served as president for about a decade, plans to establish a new organization focused on politically independent millennials and Gen Z members.
