Funded by / Ownership
YouTurn is owned by the nonprofit People Educational Awareness Trust. Initially, funding came from the founder, but since June 2022, revenue streams include donations, reader contributions, advertisement revenue, grants, and content monetization. Donations are accepted through Indian rupees only.
Importantly, YouTurn is supported by the Independent and Public-Spirited Media Foundation (IPSMF), which provides funding to independent media initiatives in India. IPSMF notes that it does not influence editorial content. YouTurn is also certified by the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), demonstrating compliance with global standards on transparency, methodology, corrections, and nonpartisanship.
Analysis / Bias
YouTurn primarily focuses on fact-checking viral claims and misinformation, often related to Indian politics, health, and social issues. Its methodology involves reverse image searches, open-source verification, and reaching out to authentic sources. Articles are categorized as True, Fake, Misleading, Mix, Sarcasm, or Scam.
Examples include debunking a viral claim by showing that a protest video was from Indonesia, not Nepal (Indonesia riots video) and clarifying misleading government statements about Tamil Nadu’s “IIT for All” scheme (IIT for All).
Content avoids loaded political language and maintains neutral explanations supported by evidence. While YouTurn operates in a politically polarized environment, its IFCN certification and transparent correction policy indicate a strong commitment to accuracy and fairness.
Failed Fact Checks
- No external failed fact checks were found against YouTurn. Instead, its role is providing fact-checks that are cited by other Indian fact-checking and media organizations.
Overall, we rate YouTurn as Least Biased based on its neutral editorial tone and adherence to international fact-checking standards. We rate them High for factual reporting due to transparent sourcing, IFCN certification, and a track record of correcting misinformation. (D. Van Zandt 09/27/2025)
