LEFT-CENTER BIAS

These media sources have a slight to moderate progressive/liberal bias.  They often publish factual information that utilizes loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes) to favor progressive/liberal causes.  These sources are generally trustworthy for information, but may require further investigation. See all Left-Center sources.

  • Overall, we rate Newlaundry as Left-Center biased based on editorial positions that moderately favor the left. We also rate them as mostly factual in reporting rather than high due to the occasional use of poor sources that have failed fact checks.

Analysis / Bias

Newslaundry is known for its investigative journalism and critical stance on mainstream media practices. It focuses on in-depth reporting and media critiques, often highlighting issues related to press freedom and accountability. The platform’s content includes reports on political and social issues in India, providing well-researched articles.

Articles and headlines often contain emotional language, like this: Did India Today ‘strike a balance’ before the 2024 election results? Not quite. This story is critical of right-leaning India Today’s coverage of PM Modi’s re-election. The article gives examples to indicate India Today’s favoritism for Modi, such as labeling Modi as ‘reformer, messiah of the poor, and Vishwaguru’. All articles reviewed provide hyperlinked sourcing but sometimes rely on sources that are rated as Mixed for factual reporting.

Editorially, Newslaundry covers issues related to the media with a left-leaning bias especially as it relates to PM Modi and his BJP Party like this Ownership, money, Modi 3.0 uncertainty: A sobering reality check for election cheer. They also promote left-leaning social justice perspectives like this ‘Don’t promote homophobia’: NBDSA asks India Today to take down video, issues guidelines.

Newslaundry generally holds left-leaning biases and is reasonably factual despite the occasional use of poor sources.
