Fact Check: Did the U.S. Government Locate 145,000 “Lost” Migrant Children?

Media Bias Fact Check (MBFC) publishes daily vetted fact checks from verified IFCN-approved sources. Each claim is independently reviewed for accuracy and context.

Claimant: Kristi Noem

Claim: “Under President Biden, more than 450,000 unaccompanied alien children went missing… Under President Trump, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Health and Human Services have already located over 145,000 of these children.”

Rating: BLATANT LIE

Explanation: The Homeland Security report cited in the claim did not conclude that hundreds of thousands of migrant children were missing. Instead, it stated authorities were unable to track all minors after release to sponsors and that some did not receive immigration paperwork or missed court hearings. Experts say these findings do not indicate the children were lost or missing.
