History

Europa Press is a private Spanish news agency founded in 1953 and based in Madrid. It became a wire service in the 1960s and now operates nationwide with multiple vertical portals covering politics, economy, health, technology, and culture. The company is owned by Advanced Media Solutions and has been a primary content provider to major Spanish and international outlets. In June 2025, businessman Miguel Arrufat, associated with the education firm Proeduca/UNIR, became the majority shareholder through the Instituto de Investigación y Transferencia de Conocimiento (IITC), while members of the Martín Cabiedes family remain in leadership roles.

Funded by / Ownership

Europa Press generates revenue through advertising, newswire subscriptions, and paid communication services via Europa Press Comunicación, as well as events, content licensing, and data products, such as EPData, which has received Google financing. It also publishes a detailed advertising rate card and separates sponsored content from newsroom articles.

Analysis / Bias

Europa Press functions primarily as a neutral wire service, producing factual, event-based reporting such as Pedro Sánchez’s attendance at the Gaza peace agreement signing and Isabel Rodríguez’s remarks on Madrid housing policy. Its stories feature institutional sourcing and minimal editorial bias. Although ad-heavy, the site clearly labels paid press releases in its Comunicados section, maintaining transparency about commercial material.

Editorially, Europa Press shows no significant partisan bias, reflecting balanced coverage across political and economic issues. The 2025 ownership change introduces potential influence risk, but current reporting continues to exhibit high factual standards and neutrality typical of a professional newswire.
