Analysis / Bias

In review, Breaking Defense covers military and defense with minimal use of loaded language such as this DARPA Space Manufacturing Project Sparks Controversy. This story, like most is properly sourced to media outlets such as Spacenews.com and defense.gov.

Editorially, they do not directly publish op-eds, however, many stories do contain opinions such as this China Supply Chain, Backdoor Money ‘Huge Priority’ For Biden Pentagon, which is hopeful of the Biden Administration, but also critical. They have also accurately fact-checked former President Donald Trump on false claims Trump’s Claim Of $2.5 Trillion In DoD Dough: Not True. In general, they report news factually with a slight right-leaning bias that favors a more authoritarian use of the military.

Failed Fact Checks

  • None in the Last 5 years. In fact, they are used as a resource for IFCN fact-checkers.

Overall, we rate Breaking Defense Right-Center Biased based on editorial positions that favor a more right-leaning authoritarian military approach. We also rate them High for factual reporting due to proper sourcing and a clean fact check record. (D. Van Zandt 2/11/2017) Updated (2/12/2021)
