John Dowd resigns as Trump’s personal lawyer in Mueller probe

John Dowd, President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer for matters related to the special counsel’s Russia investigation, has resigned.

In a brief statement to NBC News on Thursday, Dowd confirmed his move and said, “I love the president and wish him very well.” The news comes just days after Trump made his most direct — and explicit — criticism of special counsel Robert Mueller’s work, when he tweeted on Saturday that the “Mueller probe should never have been started in that there was no collusion and there was no crime.”
