The FBI says it received a tip on Jan. 5 about suspected Florida school shooter, but “protocols were not followed.”

Less than six weeks before Nikolas Cruz committed one of the deadliest school shootings in American history, someone who knew him called an FBI tip line to complain about him, the agency revealed Friday.

But no one followed up. The FBI director, expressing deep regret for the lapse, said the bureau was investigating the matter and pledged to get “to the bottom of what happened.”
