History
Oštro is an independent, nonprofit investigative journalism center based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. It was founded in 2018 by investigative journalist Anuška Delić and focuses on corruption, public assets, government accountability, data journalism, and fact-checking.
According to its About page, Oštro seeks to protect the public’s right to know by monitoring powerful institutions and publishing journalism based on verified facts, transparency, and editorial independence. It is a partner center of the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project and a member of the Global Investigative Journalism Network.
Oštro also operates the Slovenian fact-checking project Razkrinkavanje.si. It became Slovenia’s first verified signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network’s Code of Principles in 2020 and is also a member of the European Fact-Checking Standards Network.

Funded by / Ownership
Oštro operates as an independent nonprofit institute rather than a privately owned company. Its financial disclosure page states that it is funded through grants, public calls, operating income, donations, and contributions. Surplus revenue is reinvested in journalism and organizational development.
Its disclosed funding has included support from the Slovenian Ministry of Public Administration, the European Union, and the Open Society Institute–Sofia. Oštro publishes annual reports and donor information, although smaller individual donations remain private. This represents a high level of financial transparency.

In Asset Detector: KPK Warns Three MPs Over Business Activity Restrictions in 2025, Oštro reports that its inquiries contributed to official warnings involving members of both the conservative Slovenian Democratic Party and the governing center-left Freedom Movement. This indicates that its investigations are not limited to one political side.
Similarly, Asset Detector: Minister Jevšek’s Garage that Grew into a Pannonian House examines apparent building-permit violations involving a government minister.
