Analysis / Bias
The HITC website provides original reporting on gaming, TV, music, football, movies, and world news. The primary emphasis of HITC is sports and entertainment. To determine bias, we examined their coverage of world news. We found minimal use of loaded emotional language such as this RHODE ISLAND APPROVES LEGISLATION FOR GUN CONTROL MINIMUM AGE CHANGE. Although this story is balanced by presenting both sides, it fails to hyperlink information that is inappropriate for an online-only publication.
HITC does not produce opinion content, but they do demonstrate bias when reporting on Conservative PM Boris Johnson, such as this WOULD I LIE TO YOU FT BORIS JOHNSON IS THE FUNNIEST VIDEO YOU’LL SEE TODAY. When reporting on other political figures, they tend to poke fun vs. criticize the policy, such as this JOE BIDEN’S BIKE FALL MOMENT GENERATES MEME-WORTHY REACTIONS FROM THE INTERNET and DONALD TRUMP HAS ISSUES WITH WINDMILLS BUT LOVES YMCA.
Finally, HITC debunks conspiracy theories such as this WHAT IS SHARPIEGATE? 2020 ELECTION THEORY DEBUNKED BY ARIZONA ELECTION OFFICIALS. They also report accurately on current political events in the USA, such as this WHO IS TONY ORNATO? ASSISTANT DIRECTOR DENIES TRUMP ‘LUNGING’ CLAIMS. In this story, they reference CNN (without a hyperlink) as the source of information on Tony Ornato’s claims. In general, HITC reports factual news but with poor sourcing techniques and a slight left-leaning political bias.
