Factual Reporting: HIGH

The Jack News is a Libertarian blog written by Libertarians and features the writings of Presidential candidate Gary Johnson, former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld, and retired American Judge Jim Gray. According to their about page, they are “committed to freedom, common sense, and choices beyond nationalism and progressivism. We want smaller government and more individual liberty.”

In review, The Jack News reports news that falls within the stated Libertarian platform. They advocate for legalized marijuana, less restrictive immigration, and free market capitalism. However, they also reject the consensus of science regarding climate change by utilizing misleading studies that are not related to anthropogenic climate change. For the most part, The Jack News utilizes minimal loaded words such as: Fact Check: Did the Libertarian Party Ban Ron Paul From Speaking? Further, almost all articles are properly sourced to credible news sources. A factual search reveals they have not failed any fact checks. Overall, we rate The Jack News Right-Center biased based on story selection that slightly favors the right and High for factual reporting due to proper sourcing. While the information presented on climate change is misleading it is also properly sourced to credible scientific studies. The Jack News is not to be trusted for information regarding climate change as they omit key information. (D. Van Zandt 3/3/2018)
