Funded by / Ownership

The Augusta Chronicle is owned by Gannett (Gatehouse Media), which publishes USA Today. In August 2019, Gatehouse Media purchased and merged with Gannett becoming the largest newspaper chain in the USA. After the merger, the companies retained the Gannett name. Advertising and paid subscriptions generate revenue.

Analysis / Bias

In review, The Augusta Chronicle covers news, sports, lifestyle, and entertainment for the greater Augusta, Georgia area. Local news is reported with minimal loaded emotional language, such as this Motorcycle crash in Augusta parking lot kills South Carolina man. National and international news comes from other Gannett publications and the Associated Press.

Editorially, The Augusta Chronicle previously endorsed Republican Presidential candidates; however, in 2020, they did not endorse a candidate. A review of op-eds shows that both sides are represented, such as this that favors the left: Critical race theory: Is it really a threat to our country? and this favoring the right Biden administration calls for more oil from OPEC. What happened to energy independence?



. Overall, in viewing dozens of op-eds, we found slightly more favor a more liberal perspective. In general, the news is reported factually and with a left-leaning editorial bias.
