History

The News Literacy Project (NLP) is, as their About page states, “a nonpartisan national education nonprofit that works with educators and journalists to teach middle school and high school students how to sort fact from fiction in the digital age.” According to their vision statement, “News literacy is embedded in the American education experience, and people of all ages and backgrounds know how to identify credible news and other information, empowering them to have an equal opportunity to participate in the civic life of their communities and the country.”

Analysis / Bias

While focused primarily on programs and projects for students, NLP also carries some news content. As might be surmised, those articles also center around sorting fact from fiction in print and online media. The reporting in NPL’s reports is fair and balanced, with links to credible sources and material.

NLP has a broad range of contributing journalists, including Stephanie Zimmerman (ABC News) and Bryan Gruley (Bloomberg). Due to its work for students, the News Literacy Project and its dedication to truth in journalism easily earn a Least Biased rating.
