Founded in 1965, Federal Times is a source of information for senior U.S. government managers on trends and issues facing them in their job performance and career. The magazine is published six times per year. According to their about page, “Federal Times and FederalTimes.com provide news and information for federal managers.”

Funded by / Ownership

Federal Times is owned by Sightline Media Group, which was formerly owned by Gannett Company, which is best known for its flagship national newspaper USA Today. Currently, Sightline Media Group is owned by Regent, L.P. Regent is a private equity firm based in Los Angeles/California. Advertising and subscription fees fund the magazine and website.

Analysis / Bias

Federal Times publishes news and information geared toward U.S. government managers. They rarely utilize loaded emotional wording such as this How the pandemic changed federal hiring. The website also publishes political news with minimal bias, such as this Watchdogs would get subpoena power under a bipartisan bill. Finally, they also republish news from the Associated Press and always properly source information.

Editorially, op-eds tend to be reasonably balanced; however, some use emotive language such as this The delusion of postal profits. In general, news from Federal Times is factual and low-biased.
