Factual Reporting: HIGH
World Press Freedom Rank: USA 43/180

Notes: Founded in 1885, The Billings Gazette is the largest newspaper in Montana. It is geographically one of the most widely distributed newspapers in the nation. The paper is owned by Lee Enterprises, which according to Open Secrets has donated 88% of it money to Republican politicians since 1990.

In review, the Billings Gazette covers local news with journalists and reporters throughout Montana. For national news they use the Associated Press. All news is reported with minimal loaded words and bias. The Billings Gazette always sources their information properly. Editorially, there is a right-center bias. For example, during the 2016 elections they endorsed Hillary Clinton, but for local Montana candidates they almost always endorsed republican candidates.

Overall, we rate the Billings Gazette Right-Center biased due to right leaning editorials positions and High for factual reporting based on proper sourcing. (D. Van Zandt 3/28/2018)
